Recent inspections have identified hotels operating only their gaming rooms while closing other areas and facilities within the hotel, and compelling patrons to enter, remain in or pass-through gaming rooms to access services or facilities within the hotel. Inspections also continue to detect ATMs in parts of hotels that contain gaming machines.
Liquor & Gaming NSW has ordered the Gaslight Inn and The Colombian Hotel in Darlinghurst to move or screen gaming machines from interconnected rooms within the venues. The venues were directed under section 44A of the Gaming Machines Act 2001 to make the changes in order to stop them from effectively operating their gaming rooms together as one.
Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) is urging hotel licensees to review their operations to ensure that their gambling harm minimisation obligations are being met. For more information on the application of the legislation please email L&GNSW or call 1300 024 720.

The Office of Responsible Gambling has relaunched The Number that Changed my Life campaign. The campaign aims to reduce the stigma associated with gambling in culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities and drive help-seeking in these communities by directing them to our GambleAware information and services. Tailored for Chinese, Vietnamese, Korean, Hindi and Arabic communities, the campaign presents a positive approach to help seeking and offers hope to those affected by gambling.
If you live in or work with one of these communities, please help us promote this campaign. We have a range of online resources or you can email The Office of Responsible Gambling for more information.

New research has confirmed a significant link between late-night poker machine gamblers and problematic gambling behaviour across the state’s licensed venues.
The Impact of Electronic Gaming Machine (EGM) Late Night Play on EGM Player Behaviours study found that people with gambling problems represent the majority of late-night poker machine players, with almost two thirds of people playing poker machines between 2am and 8am experiencing significant negative consequences.
