Gaming reforms – internal venue signs and RGO

This is an image of a gaming machineFrom 1 July 2024, signage or advertising relating to gaming machines must not be visible from cash dispensing facilities. Additionally, signs that advertise or give direction to cash dispensing facilities must not be visible from a gaming machine or any part of a gaming area. Venues have until 1 August 2024 to comply with these new requirements. Responsible Gambling Officer and gaming incident register requirements also began on 1 July 2024.

New awareness campaign for parents launched in June

This is an image of a father and sonThe Office has launched a new campaign to educate parents and carers about how they can reduce young people’s risk of gambling harm now and in future. It provides practical tips and encourages open conversations with young people through videos about young people and gambling, gaming, gambling advertising and parental influence.

Sound and vibrancy reforms

This is an image of a people dancingAs part of the NSW Government’s agenda to rebuild night-time economy, support live music and create vibrant communities, new noise complaint regulations have been implemented to protect venues from serial complainants.

The Venues Unlocked package also delivers grants that support new and existing venues to host more live gigs without further impacting neighbours, through two programs: 
  • Soundproofing Grants will support 21 new and existing venues with up to $100,000 to help them achieve best-practice soundproofing and sound management.
  • Live Performance Venue grants will support 56 venues with up to $80,000 for essential equipment, programming and marketing costs.

Regional Roadshow in Coffs Harbour

This is an image of Natalie, Tarek, Jane and AlisonHospitality and Racing will hold its third Regulatory Roadshow for this year in Coffs Harbour, on 30 July. The executive team is keen to engage with industry and community groups from the greater Coffs Harbour region.  

The team will provide an overview of Hospitality and Racing Regulatory Priorities and focus areas for the next six months, with a panel discussion for attendees to ask questions. Previous attendees have emphasised the importance of these events for networking and collaboration on industry issues. 

This event will also include a presentation from the Office of the 24-Hour Economy Commissioner around Vibrancy Reforms and the work they are currently delivering.

Licences now suspended for unpaid Annual Liquor Licence Fee

This is an image of a clipboard with a 'licence suspension' headingLiquor licences were suspended on 27 June 2024 if the ALLF had not been paid. You cannot sell alcohol with a suspended licence. 

Copies of fee notices can be requested by contacting SNSW on 13 77 88. 

It is important to note that payment can only be made using the details on the ALLF fee notice. Please allow 3 working days for funds to be received if making your payment via BPAY.

If the fee remains unpaid, your licence will be cancelled on 26 July 2024.

Interstate Digital Driver’s Licence

This is an image of a driver licenceAs part of the NSW Government’s Vibrancy Reforms, changes have been made to NSW’s liquor laws to enable interstate digital driver licences to serve as official evidence of age documents under the Liquor Act 2007.  

From 1 July 2024, interstate digital driver licences can be recognised as a valid form of identification at NSW licenced premises.

New ClubGRANTS expenditure exemption/requirements

This is an image of a people sitting around a tableA review of the ClubGRANTS Guidelines introduced a new exemption for expenditure on overseas travel and education programs.  

Current Exemptions available to eligible clubs:
  • Expenditure for overseas travel and education programs - Guideline 2.3.7
  • 20% limit on in-kind expenditure - Guideline 2.1.5.

ClubGRANTS annual returns

To qualify for the tax rebate, at least 0.75% of prescribed profits must be allocated to Category 1 purposes.

Bringing vibrancy to NSW

Assistance animals in licensed venues

This is an image of a service dogThe NSW Food Authority has updated its guidance regarding the rights of individuals with assistance animals and the responsibilities of licensed venues.  

Assistance animals must be allowed into dining and drinking areas and any other areas used by customers, but they are not allowed in non-public areas, such as the kitchen. 

To help both patrons and venue operators navigate these guidelines effectively, the Authority has provided comprehensive information on their website. You can access these resources directly at the Authority's Assistance Animals Guidelines.
