Responsible Gambling Officers and Gambling Incident Register guidance and templates

From 1 July 2024 new requirements will commence under the Gaming Machines Regulation 2019.

What are the new requirements?

The following requirements will come into effect:

  • All hotels and clubs with gaming machines will need to keep a gambling incident register;
  • Hotels and clubs with more than 20 gaming machine entitlements will need to have at least one Responsible Gambling Officer (RGO) on duty at all times gaming machines are in operation; and
  • From 1 September 2024, all hotels and clubs with gaming machines will need to have a gaming plan of management.

What resources are available?

To help venues prepare for the new requirements, Liquor & Gaming NSW (L&GNSW) has published a range of new material on its website in relation to the RGO requirement and gambling incident registers.

New guidance has been published on the L&GNSW website to help venues prepare for the introduction of RGOs.

L&GNSW has also published a series of FAQs answering common questions about the introduction of RGOs.

The FAQs will be updated over the coming weeks in response to common questions from venues and employees.

Venues can continue to use their current bound book or digital register until 31 December 2024.

Gaming plan of management (GPOM)

All venues must have their completed GPOM in place by 1 September 2024.

From the commencment of the Regulation on 1 July 2024, venues will not be required to have GPOMs approved by ILGA or L&GNSW.
