Gaming reform

The NSW Government has committed to a comprehensive range of gambling reforms, to reduce gambling harm and stop money laundering and criminal activity associated with gaming machines in NSW. See links below for new requirements commencing from 1 July 2024.

Responsible Gambling Officer

New guidance has been published on the L&GNSW website to help venues prepare for the introduction of RGOs.

L&GNSW has also published a series of FAQs answering common questions about the introduction of RGOs.

The FAQs will be updated over the coming weeks in response to common questions from venues and employees.

Gambling incident registers

fact sheet with information for venues about how to keep a gambling incident register and what should be recorded in it has been published on the L&GNSW website.

L&GNSW has also released:

Gaming Plan of Management

All venues must have their completed GPOM in place by 1 September 2024.

From the commencement of the Regulation on 1 July 2024, venues will not be required to have GPOMs approved by ILGA or L&GNSW.

Internal gaming machine and cash dispensing facility signage and cash dispensing location changes

New guidance has been published regarding upcoming changes to:

  • internal signage for gaming machines,
  • internal signage for cash dispensing facilities, and
  • the location of cash dispensing facilities in venues.

Liquor reform

Vibrancy Reform Act 2023

A range of changes to the NSW liquor laws to support a thriving and vibrant night-time economy and the associated music and cultural sector were introduced into NSW Parliament in November 2023. These changes will come into force in a staged approach commencing from mid-December 2023 and throughout 2024. Find out what’s changing here:
