To make same day alcohol deliveries to retail customers in NSW, you must complete the Responsible Supply of Alcohol Training (RSAT) and pass the L&GNSW online RSAT Assessment.

Same day delivery providers, agents and drivers making same day deliveries in NSW must be aware of and fulfil their legal obligations under the law as covered in the L&GNSW RSAT Course Handbook PDF, 1651.99 KB

To gain the RSAT certification, you must:

  • Complete RSAT with Liquor & Gaming NSW or with any same day delivery provider, delivery agent or Registered Training Organisation offering the training, and
  • Pass the L&GNSW online RSAT assessment.

Please note, same day alcohol delivery providers, delivery agents, registered training organisations and L&GNSW may deliver RSAT, however, only L&GNSW can conduct the RSAT assessment and issue the certificate.

  • NSW liquor laws and what they mean for you
  • Recognising intoxication and refusing supply responsibly
  • Minors, including ID checks and secondary supply
  • Harm minimisation strategies
  • Compliance and enforcement

Responsible Supply of Alcohol Training (RSAT) is mandatory for anyone involved in same day alcohol delivery to the public in NSW. This applies to same day alcohol delivery providers, delivery agents and persons making same day deliveries.

The RSAT course covers a range of topics including:

  • Meaning, purpose, and importance of RSAT
  • NSW liquor laws and what they mean for you
  • Recognising intoxication and refusing supply responsibly
  • Minors, including ID checks and secondary supply
  • Harm minimisation strategies
  • Compliance and enforcement.

  • Complete RSAT with any same day delivery provider, delivery agent or Registered Training Organisation offering the training, and
  • pass the mandatory L&GNSW online RSAT assessment.

Please note: same day alcohol delivery providers, delivery agents, registered training organisations and L&GNSW may deliver RSAT, however, only L&GNSW can conduct the RSAT assessment and issue the certificate.

RSAT is a separate requirement to Responsible Service of Alcohol (RSA).

To obtain the RSAT certificate, you need to:

RSAT courses may be offered either face-to-face or online. The RSAT course and mandatory assessment are developed by L&GNSW.

The RSAT Assessment quiz is an online 12 question knowledge test.

The price charged for the RSAT course will vary between training providers.

The L&GNSW RSAT online course-plus-assessment package costs $28.

You have three (3) attempts to pass the L&GNSW RSAT course + assessment. If you fail on the third attempt, you will be able to purchase the L&GNSW RSAT Assessment only, which gives you another three (3) attempts at the assessment quiz.

Alternatively, you may complete the RSAT with a same day delivery provider or delivery agent (such as your employer) or RTO offering the course and then complete the mandatory L&GNSW RSAT Assessment only at a cost of $18.

The RSAT certificate allows you to make same day deliveries to retail customers in NSW.

To gain your RSAT certificate you must complete the RSAT course and pass the mandatory L&GNSW RSAT Assessment via the TAFE NSW learning platform.

You will be required to create a TAFE account providing your personal details and the training provider used to complete the course. The personal details of the learner who creates the TAFE account will be displayed on the certificate issued after successful course and assessment completion.

The certificate will be automatically sent to the email address used to create your TAFE account. You can also log in to your TAFE account for up to six months, to print or save a copy of the certificate.

Remember:

  • You can only download the certificate from your TAFE account within six months of being issued the certificate.
  • Save the certificate to your smartphone or computer for ease of access in the future.
  • You must be able to show your certificate to NSW Police or a Liquor & Gaming NSW Inspector, if requested.

This certificate must be renewed before the valid-for-duties date, that is, before five years. To renew, you need to complete the RSAT course and the Liquor & Gaming NSW online RSAT Assessment again.

Please note: your RSAT certificate will be valid for a period of five years. To renew your certificate, you need to complete the RSAT course and pass the Liquor & Gaming NSW RSAT assessment prior to the certificate expiry date.

The online sale and same day delivery of alcohol has become increasingly popular in recent years, with more demand from consumers with changes in technology. RSAT helps to address the risk of minors or intoxicated people accessing alcohol through online sales and same day delivery in NSW.

The Responsible Supply of Alcohol Training (RSAT) is a separate course to the Responsible Service of Alcohol training (RSA) and is mandatory for anyone making same day alcohol deliveries to the public in NSW. While an RSA qualifies you to sell, serve or supply alcohol in NSW, the RSAT certification qualifies you to make same day alcohol deliveries to retail customers in NSW.

The mandatory RSAT assessment is only available from L&GNSW via the TAFE NSW platform.

You should complete an RSAT course prior to undertaking the L&GNSW Assessment. Alternatively, you should complete the combined L&GNSW RSAT online course-plus-assessment.

You need to score 100% to pass the assessment and receive your RSAT certificate. You have three (3) attempts to pass the assessment quiz.

If you fail the assessment while completing the L&GNSW RSAT course-plus-assessment package, you will be able to purchase the L&GNSW RSAT assessment only, which gives you another three (3) attempts at the assessment quiz.

If you fail on the third attempt of the RSAT Assessment only, you will need to

  1. re-enrol in the assessment-only
  2. pay again

No. Once you have enrolled via TAFE the Liquor &Gaming NSW RSAT Assessment will be available for you to access and complete for six months from enrolment on the TAFE NSW learning platform. This also applies to the RSAT course if you choose to complete the training with Liquor & Gaming NSW.

You can access your TAFE account for up to six months from enrolment, to print or save a copy of your RSAT certificate.

This certificate is valid for a period of five years. To renew your certificate, you need to complete the RSAT course and the Liquor & Gaming NSW online RSAT Assessment again.
